Principle of Denitrification Filter

Denitrification FilterInThe denitrification reaction in the denitrification filtration process is mostly the oxidation-reduction process in which anaerobic denitrifying bacteria use organic carbon sources (such as methanol, acetic acid, ethanol, etc.) as carbon sources. ) as electron donors, and nitrate as electron acceptors. Some autotrophic denitrifying bacteria use inorganic carbon (such as CO2, H2CO3, etc.) as carbon sources, and hydrogen, iron, and sulfur compounds as electron donors.

Denitrification FilterThe enzymes involved in the reaction have certain requirements for the reaction conditions: pH (7~8), dissolved oxygen concentration (≤0.5mg/L), water temperature (20~35℃), C/N ratio (≥5:1 is generally required in engineering), etc. Therefore, for denitrification filters, ensuring the above conditions is a prerequisite for ensuring denitrification efficiency. In actual on-site engineering, the water temperature and pH value of the wastewater treatment plant are relatively stable, but due to changes in influent water quality and water volume, the influent organic matter content is insufficient, and the denitrifying bacteria in the filter cannot obtain sufficient carbon sources, resulting in low denitrification efficiency.

Denitrification FilterIn addition, the hydraulic load of the designed filter is about 0.5~3m3﹒m-2﹒h-1. Low hydraulic load easily leads to problems such as blockage, difficult flushing and maintenance, while high hydraulic load will lead to insufficient contact time between wastewater and biofilm, and insufficient reaction will also lead to low stripping efficiency.

Denitrification FilterFrequency and intensity of flushing. Denitrification biofilters belong to biofilm processes and need to be flushed within a certain service life to recover the lost head. At the same time, a part of the aged and shed biofilm will be discharged from the entire filter, promoting the formation of new biofilm, just like the excess sludge in the activated sludge process will be discharged from the system. Therefore, denitrification biofilters need to find a suitable flushing frequency and intensity according to the changes in water quality and quantity and the growth of biofilm.
