Integrated Activated Carbon Adsorption-Desorption Unit
key word: Integrated Activated Carbon Adsorption-Desorption Unit
Product Description
Overview
The integrated activated carbon adsorption–desorption system can operate using either an adsorption–catalytic combustion process or an adsorption–thermal oxidation process. This approach employs a novel adsorbent material—honeycomb-shaped activated carbon—to capture pollutants; once the adsorbent is nearly saturated, heated air is introduced to desorb and regenerate the adsorbent. The desorbed exhaust gas is then routed to a catalytic combustion bed or an RTO unit for thorough purification, with the heated gas recirculated within the system to significantly reduce energy consumption. The system features stable and reliable operation, low capital investment, low operating costs, and easy maintenance, making it one of the most mature and practical methods currently available in China for treating organic waste gases.
Working Principle
This purification unit operates continuously with a dual-air-path configuration and is equipped with two or more adsorption beds that can be alternately used. Organic waste gas is first adsorbed onto activated carbon; when the adsorption bed approaches saturation, the adsorption process is halted, and a hot air stream is then introduced to desorb the organic compounds from the activated carbon, thereby regenerating the bed. The desorbed organics are concentrated and conveyed to the catalytic combustion chamber, where they are converted into CO2 and H2O before being discharged. When the concentration of the organic waste gas is within an appropriate range, the gas can sustain self-ignition without external heating. After combustion, a portion of the exhaust gas is released into the atmosphere, while the majority is recirculated back to the adsorption bed to facilitate the desorption and regeneration of the activated carbon. In this way, the thermal energy required for both combustion and desorption is effectively supplied, achieving energy savings. The regenerated activated carbon can then be reused for the next adsorption cycle. The unit is suitable for both continuous and batch operations.
Uses
It is capable of treating organic waste gases containing benzene derivatives, ketones, alcohols, ethers, alkanes, and their mixtures, and is primarily used for the purification of harmful organic waste gases that volatilize or leak from painting, electronics, footwear manufacturing, pen manufacturing, rubber processing, printing, and various chemical production workshops, as well as for odor elimination. Direct combustion, catalytic combustion, or adsorption recovery methods are not suitable for treating such organic waste gases.
Performance Features
1. The entire system operates in a closed-loop cycle for both the purification and desorption processes, eliminating the need for auxiliary energy sources such as compressed air compared with conventional organic waste gas recovery and purification units.
2. This equipment features unique material selection, stable performance, simple operation, high safety and reliability, energy efficiency, labor savings, and zero secondary pollution.
3. A new type of activated carbon adsorbent—honeycomb-structured activated carbon—is employed. Compared with granular activated carbon, it exhibits superior kinetic performance and is particularly well suited for applications involving high air volumes.
4. When the organic exhaust gas is suitable, self-ignition can be maintained, resulting in low energy consumption for the equipment.
5. Low operating costs and excellent energy-saving performance.
6. A PLC-based centralized control system is employed, enabling fully automated operation and control of the equipment, with safe, stable, and reliable performance.
